Palm Tree Nails
13.7.16
Two things remind me of summer, watermelon and palm trees. The latter is this week's nail design! I will do watermelons on my nails soon. Anyway, I haven't done a gradient (or ombre) with a sponge for a while, so I figured that I could combine those two!
To find out more about this manicure, just keep reading!
Let's start!
I recently got a nail peel off liquid tape because it was about time to be available in stores in Greece, and I was so excited to try it out! I chose lilac and light blue because it somehow reminds me of the sea with a sunset.
I used OPI's "Sailing & Nail-ing" from the Retro Summer 2016 collection (more details for the collection click here) for the light blue color. It really stands out.
For the lilac color, I used "#86 Matt Mauve" by Lee Hatton which is a really cute pastel color.
Before I did the gradient, I applied peel off liquid tape around each nail to protect my skin from getting messy with nail polish. I waited about 1 minute to completely dry (it is transparent). I did the gradient and I removed (or peeled off) the liquid tape. Just as simple as that!
For the gradient effect I used a smooth sponge (kitchen sponge). To achieve this design, you just paint half of the sponge with the lilac nail polish and the other half with the light blue one. Then you dab on your nails and you repeat the process for 2-3 times (until you have the result you want) because it really depends on the nail polish you use for the gradient.
For the palm tree, I used black acrylic paint I purchased from eBay with a set of other colors and a nail detail brush! When it dried, I sealed the design with a top coat. The top coat makes the gradient look smoother!
